Walker’s “Wisconsin Fast Forward” Radio Address

For the City-Times

Governor Scott Walker released his Weekly Radio Address Thursday titled, “The Advantages of Independence”.

Hi, I’m Governor Scott Walker.

This week we announced another step in our effort to strengthen the economy and grow jobs, by getting workers the skills that they need to qualify for great, family-supporting positions available here in Wisconsin.

The Department of Workforce Development is now accepting applications for Wisconsin Fast Forward grants.  These grants support innovative training that is demand-driven by employers.

Eligible industries – that have jobs available now, but not enough skilled workers to fill them – include manufacturing and small manufacturing businesses with 50 or fewer employees, construction, and customer service.   Grants will be awarded to businesses in these industries to provide training for the unemployed or underemployed.

The goal is not only to help those out of work transition back into the workforce, but also assist people looking for a better job, with a bigger paycheck.

At the same time, we know companies will grow and expand, if they are confident they can hire enough skilled people to handle the work load.  Expanding businesses and more jobs means a stronger economy.

This is just one more way we are moving Wisconsin forward.
