A 49 year-old Stevens Point man is being held on charges of felony stalking and unlawful use of a telephone to make threats.
James E. Larson is behind bars for allegedly threatening the mother of his child. According to the police report, the victim started receiving unwanted phone calls and harassing text messages from Larson on March 2.
On March 4, the victim contacted the Plover Police Department and told an officer Larson had threatened “to take her life”, and that he continued to contact her after she told him not to. While the officer was examining the call log on her cell phone, she received another call from Larson. The officer answered and told him to stop contacting the victim.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim continued receiving threatening texts from Larson, who later told Plover police that he did not remember speaking to the victim or the officer.
He was taken into custody and a cash bond was set at $10,000.
Larson, who is on probation from a conviction stemming from a 2009 case that included battery, could be facing 3 1/2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted on the stalking charge.
He remains in the Portage County Jail.
