Walkers from throughout Wisconsin- along with friends, family and relatives from around the state and across the country- are gearing up for the 11th annual Walk Wisconsin in June.
Known as the Midwest’s “premier walking event”, this year’s marathon takes place on Saturday, June 6.
Participants can choose from events: the full marathon, 26.2 miles; three-quarters marathon, 19.6 miles; half-marathon, 13.1 miles; or one-quarter marathon, 6.5 miles- all along the Green Circle Trail.
Training schedules and registration forms are available on the Walk Wisconsin website at walkwisconsin.com. Early bird registration ends May 1.
New this year is an earlier, rolling start for the full 26.2 mile marathon, with walkers starting start from Pfiffner Pioneer Park band shell anytime between 7 AM and 7:30 AM.
Shorter marathon events are available for children, with a 2.62 and 1.31 mile Kid’s Walk Wisconsin.
“Walking is an exercise that can be enjoyed by most ages and ability levels,” said John Jury, a member of the Walk Wisconsin Committee. “It is a great, active way for families and friends to spend quality time together, while improving their health.”
While it’s not a race, Walk Wisconsin is organized much like a regular running marathon. Participants receive a commemorative t-shirt, sports sack, comfort and nutrition stops along the way, a finish line celebration and medallion.
