Only 30 minutes after signing his oath of office for Plover Village President, Tom Davies called his first board meeting to order on Tuesday at noon, bringing forward a new but familiar board.
“I’m very happy with the new board. There’s a lot of familiar faces and we welcome Anton Anday back. He’s been on the board before,” said Davies.
Davies was a Village Trustee for Ward 2 prior to being elected as village president. He takes over for long-time President Dan Schlutter, who retired. Davies earned 681 votes to Al Haga, Junior’s 545 votes and 274 votes cast for Gary Krause in the April 7 election.
Davies said there are some large projects the village needs to prepare for in the coming months.
“Two big ones are the roundabout and Highway 51 construction,” he said. “Those are going to be a big time consuming issue.”
The construction of Hwy 51 is expected to take 3 years and will start in 2016. A roundabout at the intersection of Hwy 54 and Maple Dr. will begin construction at the end of April.
“Business Highway 51 worried me,” said Anday. “We have created a certain level of blight that one needs to address.”
Anday said he served on the board about 10 years ago. He beat opponent Gary Wold to become trustee for Ward 2.
“I’m not exactly new kid on the block, but by seniority, yeah, I’m the new kid on the block,” said Anday. “I’m looking forward to how we can move Plover forward.”
Davies’ first board meeting was a quick one, lasting only a few minutes. After the meeting was called to order, committee assignments were approved and the meeting was adjourned.
The Plover Village Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month with committees meeting the previous Monday.
