Fishing championship to be aired on the ESPNU network

Some of the nation’s best collegiate smallmouth bass anglers will descend upon the Stevens Point Area this July.
The 2015 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship, presented by Bass Pro Shops, is coming to Lake DuBay July 9-11. The event is being hosted by the Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Sara Brish, executive director for SPACVB, said the bureau is partnering with UWSP, the university’s Big Dawgs Fishing Club and local service industry to help “roll out the red carpet” for the event.
The event has a long-standing tradition of holding the event on mid-sized bass fisheries, and is expected to give a boost to local tourism.
Teams have been qualifying for the championship through a series of conference regional tournaments since January. As many as 90 teams are expected to compete during the weekend, though the field will be trimmed to the top 5 for the third day’s competition. The competition will be judged on the heaviest cumulative catch, which limits anglers to five bass daily.
Event organizers say they expect the Stevens Point event to break attendance records.
Fishing vessels will depart from the Tiki Beach Bar and Grill, located at 1126 County Road DB in Mosinee.
Fish will be weighed in Colman Field on the UWSP campus, 2100 Maria Drive.
The championship, like all Carhartt Bassmaster College Series events, will be aired on the ESPNU network.
