A Birnamwood man appeared via video in a Portage County Courthouse via video, accused of 29 counts of possession of child pornography.
Christopher Ehlenfeldt, 39, is also accused of capturing an image of nudity without consent as well as 29 counts of possession of child pornography on August 11, 2012 in the city of Stevens Point. According to police records, Ehlenfeldt’s wife turned a computer primarily used by him to police. Further investigation by detectives revealed video images of child pornography stored on that computer.
Ehlenfeldt was transported to Portage County from Shawano County where he was being held on a $30,000 cash bond stemming from other child porn charges. In that case, detectives scanning an online file sharing site known to traffic in child pornography turned up an IP address in Birnamwood. The investigation led to Ehlenfeldt who was using a nearby wireless network to gain internet access.
According to District Attorney, Louis Molepske, Ehlenfeldt is also facing 70 counts of possession of child pornography in Shawano County, including at least one charge of manufacturing videos.
“The case is just beginning here in Portage County,” said Molepske.
According to the criminal complaint, the videos allegedly depict very young, and prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity with each other and with adults.
Ehlenfeldt was ordered held on $50,000 cash bond. Should he post that bond, bond conditions stipulate that he is to have no contact with minors or possess any device with access to the internet.
Each charge of child pornography carries a potential maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and $100,000 fine. Ehlenfeldt is due back in Portage County Court on May 18.
