Two elected positions held by Mike Wiza prior to his being elected mayor are now up for grabs.
Wiza represented the 4th District for both Portage County and the City of Stevens Point until he won the mayor’s seat on April 7.
City residents interested in being considered for the spot need to complete a declaration of candidacy, available at www.stevenspoint.com or at the City Clerk’s office, 1515 Strongs Avenue.
Candidates for the City Council spot can apply up to the start of the May 18 Council meeting. Applicants will be given time to address the Council and will be chosen by a majority vote of the members.
Officials from Portage Co. will advertise the opening for its open seat on May 21, after Wiza’s resignation from the Portage Co. Board of Supervisors takes effect. Applicants for that seat can obtain forms from County Clerk Shirley Simonis and will be interviewed by the county’s Executive/Operations Committee.
A final candidate should be approved for the County Board’s July meeting.
Both the city and the county seat will be up for re-election in 2016.
