Portage County Master Gardener Volunteers are preparing for their 16th annual plant sale on May 16th.
The plants are grown by Master Gardeners with the majority being perennials. Specialty tomato and pepper plants will also be for sale, along with miscellaneous shrubs, fruits, herbs and bulbs, all reasonably priced. Select perennial plants, sourced from a Wisconsin grower, will also be available.
Shoppers purchasing plants will receive a free blight-resistant tomato plant. Information about late blight, a disease of potatoes and tomatoes in Portage County, will be featured at the sale.
Proceeds from the sale support Master Gardener Volunteer activities including scholarships, grants, educational programs and community gardens.
Master Gardener Volunteers are part of Portage County University of Wisconsin Extension. Their purpose is to provide horticulture information and community service to area residents. Master Gardener Volunteers will be available at the sale to help shoppers select appropriate plants for their gardens.
The sale will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 8-11 AM in the parking lot of the Rettler Building, 3317 Business Park Dr. in the Portage County Business Park.
