A Stevens Point man is facing charges for obstructing an officer after he allegedly helped hide a juvenile female in his mother’s home.
According to the criminal complaint, 21-year-old Christopher Mence refused to allow Portage County deputies into the home he shares with his mother on the 2100 block of Ellis Street. The mother had already given consent for the search.
Responding deputies say Mence crossed his arms and blocked the doorway, attempting to block entry to the home. After they entered the house, Mence began to swear and yell at the deputies as they searched for the girl.
Mence was placed under arrest for obstruction, but continued to be uncooperative and physically resisted deputies as he was handcuffed.
The girl was eventually found inside the residence.
At the request of Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Constable, Judge John Finn issued a $500 signature bond for Mence, who was ordered to have no contact with the girl.
Mence is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on June 1.
