As part of their track and field units- and as an annual precursor to the end of the school year- fifth and sixth graders from area public schools are preparing for the annual all-district meet at Goerke Field.
The event will span two days- May 27 and 28- and include the usual track and field events like hurdles, dashes and long jumps, but also include a medicine ball throw, tug of victory (also known as tug o’ war) and hop-step-jump events.
A rain date for the event has been scheduled for June 1.
In their quest for the coveted Spirit Jug- a traveling trophy awarded to one school each year based on students’ display of school spirit- students don school t-shirts, face paint and swag items in school colors.
Parents who attend are asked to stay outside of the track fence or sit in the south end of the west bleachers.
