A Stevens Point man was arrested for his fourth OWI following a traffic stop for loud exhaust.
Stevens Point police encountered Casey Rutta, 33, while on patrol near the downtown square around 5 PM on May 23. Officers on the scene said Rutta, who was driving a moped, saw the patrol and yelled a loud expletive in their direction before driving away. Rutta’s moped had no exhaust.
Police pulled Rutter over near the intersection of Rogers and Clark streets, where they say he still smelled like alcohol. Rutta told the officers he had recently lost the exhaust during an accident, and admitted having just left North Point Pub on Second Street.
A field sobriety test revealed Rutta’s blood alcohol content was 0.14. Rutta is under a court-ordered restriction due to three previous OWI convictions and is not allowed to have a blood alcohol content of greater than 0.02.
Rutter appeared by video before Judge Thomas Flugaur who ordered a $750 bond. He returns to court on June 8.
