Katherine “Kay” E. Kranig, age 65 of Amherst, died June 1, 2015 at St Clare’s Hospital in Weston, WI, while surrounded by her loving family.
Kay was born July 18, 1949 to the late Peter R. and M. Jeanette (Perdue) Dragos in Manistique, MI. She attended school in Ladysmith, WI and Fridley, MN. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1967 before attending the University of Milwaukee.
In her earlier years, Kay began working for Sentry Insurance as a reinsurance account technician from 1969 to 1978, before becoming employed at Sauve Company as researcher from 1990 to 1996. She later became employed at Kortz and Associates as an accounting technician until retiring in 2006.
She married Thomas M. Kranig on June 14, 1997 at Plover United Methodist Church.
Kay was “full of grace”. Her dedication to her faith and family was extremely important. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, babysitting and attending their soccer and softball games. Kay was considered the hub of her family and organized many enjoyable family gatherings. She loved to cook and always made sure there was enough food to go around at every family meal. She also enjoyed listening to music and singing in the Smoky Express Gospel Show. In her spare time Kay enjoyed reading mystery and fantasy novels.
Kay was an active member at the Buena Vista United Methodist Church. She was active as a finance chair, recording secretary, ad counsel secretary, and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a 4H Leader from 1989-1995.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Kranig of Amherst; daughter, Natalie (Joe) Brooks Orsund of Amherst; son, Reed (Mae) Brooks of Plover; Step-daughters, Lauri Kranig of Virginia, Jennifer (Vince) Buss of Green Bay, & Melanie (Aaron) Martin of Marathon City; step-son, Brian (Dawn) Kranig of Crystal Lake, IL; sisters, Devra Dragos of Lincoln, NE, Robyn (JR) Scribner of Geraldine, MT, and Alison (Dave) Basinger of Salisbury, NC; brothers, Robert (Sharon) and Roderick Dragos of Stevens Point. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kaylie & Makenna Orsund, Boone Brooks, Ellawyn Buss, Carley, Jace, & Logan Kranig, Madeline, Paige, & Eve Martin; 3 nieces, 2 nephews, a nephew-in-law, and a great nephew.
She is preceded in death by a daughter Lara Heather Brooks; and her parents.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Ben Sheets presiding. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Boston Funeral Home and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at a later date in Liberty Corners Cemetery.
