Top mathematics students from area high schools were recently honored at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the 45rd Annual Central Wisconsin Mathematics League banquet.
The banquet marked the culmination of three meets held throughout the academic year. Students from 50 Central Wisconsin schools competed in algebra, geometry and advanced mathematics.
The league is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance, Sentry Insurance and Travel Guard, and coordinated by faculty members of the UW-Stevens Point Department of Mathematical Science. A plaque is given to the first- through third-place school teams in each of the four divisions based on the size of the school.
The top individual scorers in each category earn a certificate. A scholarship is also awarded to a student who will attend UW-Stevens Point the following fall.
