The man accused in the fatal shooting of his wife is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
Bancroft resident Larry Sanchez, 55, was in Portage Co. Circuit Court Friday on initial charges following Wednesday’s shooting. Sanchez allegedly shot and killed his wife, Lisa Sanchez, 47, then locked himself in his home on the 8300 block of Division Street in the Town of Pine Grove.
During the four hour standoff law enforcement evacuated surrounding businesses and homes, while hostage negotiators tried to get Sanchez to surrender. According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, only after the county’s Special Response Team deployed pepper spray and tear gas did Sanchez emerge from the house.
Portage Co. District Attorney Louis Molepske said he expects to formally charge Sanchez with homicide and homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm.
Sanchez returns to court on June 22.
