Over 100 young anglers showed up for Saturday’s annual Cops’n Bobbers fishing event.
The event takes place each year during the free fishing weekend, sponsored by the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources to encourage participation in outdoor sports. On June 6 and 7, anglers don’t need a state license for fishing.
“This just gets bigger and bigger each year,” said Plover Police Officer Seth Pionke, who helped create the event in conjunction with the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Pionke, along with Sheriff Mike Lukas, said more than 300 participants and family members turned out for the event.
