The community is invited to the 2015 Summer Celebration at the Stevens Point Sculpture Park on Saturday, June 13.
Five new sculptures will debut in the 20-acre park at 900 North Second Street, Stevens Point, marking the 5th anniversary of the park opening.
The Summer Celebration will begin at 11 a.m. and will include poetry readings, dance performances, live music, laughing yoga, children’s activities as well as an artist meet and greet. Peace Flags made by area elementary school students, will line the trails throughout the Stevens Point Sculpture Park.
Summer Celebration Schedule of Events
11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. – Discussion with Artist Karolee Bulak at ‘Healing Labyrinth’
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Music by the Voyageur Saxophone Quartet near ‘It’s for the Birds’
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. – Poetry Reading with the Aspiring Authors of Stevens Point at ‘Sand County Bench’
12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. – Dance Performance with Transcribing Dance Company at ‘Extended Point’
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Poetry Reading with the Aspiring Authors of Stevens Point at ‘Extended Point’
1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Laughter Yoga with Judi Olson near ‘It’s for the Birds’
Representatives from the Stevens Point Sculpture Park as well as numerous artists will be available for interviews during the event.
Artists Karolee Bulak and Ben Zoltak will be available to meet. Zoltak will be working on ‘Swift Nesting Wing’ a sculptural Chimney Swift habitat in the park.
Individuals who would like to assist or bring items to be added to the piece are encouraged to bring small scale ceramic items.
New work by artists debuting in the park this year are; Melanie Serkes of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-‘Three Graces’, Keith Kaziak of Wausau, Wisconsin-‘Infinite Decay’, Luke Crawley of Indianapolis, Indiana-‘COC XIX’, ‘COC XVIII’ and ‘COC XX’.
The performances during the Summer Celebration will be provided by the following groups and individuals; ‘Suits’ performed by Transcribing Dance Company; Dancers: Kayla Dziak, Kellen Skidmore, Celia Sweet and Sculptor: Greg Luedtke. Members of the Aspiring Authors of Stevens Point will be attending reading poetry in the park. Jon Gadbois, Poet Laureate – City of Stevens Point and advocate of poetry in all forms will also be in attendance. Voyageur Saxophone Quarter consists of David Hastings (Soprano Saxophone), Jennifer Bellmer (Alto Saxophone), Jeff Erickson (Tenor Saxophone) and Clarke Crandell (Baritone Saxophone).
The Stevens Point Sculpture Park is an evolving living park, with art continually added each year through juried exhibitions, artist in residency programs and other events.
The Stevens Point Sculpture Park, a twenty-acre site featuring woodlands, wetlands, ponds and prairie, is located on North Second Street on the Green Circle next to Zenoff Park, in Stevens Point. Its mission is to provide a welcoming and accessible outdoor venue for environmental arts exhibitions, activities, and educational programs.
