A man suspected of starting last month’s fire at Dollar General says he’s not guilty.
Brian Kraus, 18 of Stevens Point, has been charged with arson after allegedly starting the fire in early May. According to the criminal complaint, Kraus first told police he believed the first was caused by a microwave he used to heat his lunch, but later admitted lighting several disposable plates with a lighter he took from the store.
The fire resulted in no injuries but several nearby stores were evacuated. Dollar General reopened several days later.
Kraus plead not guilty to the charges on Monday.
If convicted Kraus faces up to 40 years in prison. He remains behind bars at the Portage Co. Jail and returns to court on July 20.
