A 27-year-old man is facing substantial battery charges following an alleged fight on the Lake Dubay Boat Landing on June 27.
Evan Poland was taken into custody after Portage County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle near the boat landing. When deputies arrived they found two men at the scene, one of whom was suffering from a head wound that he claimed was the result of an altercation with a third man, identified as Poland.
The victim stated that the incident arose from a dispute over damage to his boat. The three men had been boating and drinking on Lake Dubay for several hours.
According the court records, deputies searched the vehicle at the scene, which was registered to Poland and in it they found a substantial amount of blood, as well as a substance that tested positive for THC, along with some suspected drug paraphernalia.
Poland fled the scene but was later located and booked into the Portage County Jail. The victim, who was transported to the hospital, required five stitches to treat his head wound.
Poland, who is also facing charges of possession of THC and drug paraphernalia, was released on a $2000 signature bond and is due back in court on July 13 for an initial appearance.
