A Plover man with at least eight pending cases in Portage County appeared in via video in Portage County Court on Monday after allegedly slapping a woman.
Eli Eckerson, 20, was arrested following the July 3 incident. According to police records, the victim’s husband flagged down a passing deputy on Highway 66 around 11 PM to report the alleged attack. The man told authorities he and his wife were standing on the raised median on Crosby Avenue when two men, including Eckerson, reportedly ran across the road and slapped the wife.
The man gave a description of the two suspects, including one wearing a red shirt. The deputy was able to stop the red-shirted suspect, identified as Eckerson, shortly afterward and noticed an odor of intoxicants. Eckerson, who was out on bond on charges that include robbery, battery and theft, is forbidden from consuming alcohol as a condition of his bond.
Eckerson’s blood alcohol content was .193, more than twice the legal limit. Eckerson was then arrested for bail jumping and taken to the Portage County Jail.
Judge Thomas Eagon ordered a $500 cash bond and Eckerson’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 20.
