Fern Mabel Laskowski, nee Hellmuth, 87, passed away peacefully in her bed at the Atrium Care Center on Monday, July 20, 2015 due to congested heart failure. Her room was warm and as a window was being opened her soul took leave to begin her next adventure. Did she know? Ponder that!
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Ficken presiding. A time of visitation will be held 9:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.
Fern was born October 22, 1927 to August & Violet (Sherman) Hellmuth. She was educated in the Stevens Point Public Schools and remained friends with classmates from McKinley School, meeting monthly for lunch until just recently. Growing up and into adulthood she enjoyed summers, holidays, and weekends at her Aunt Mabel Sherman’s farm just south of Point.
Fern married Lawrence Laskowski on May 10, 1947. They traveled extensively.
She enjoyed her career as a waitress serving warm meals with an ever friendly smile at the Blueberry Muffin and the Blue Top Supper Club. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Berens-Schribner Post 6 for over 55 years.
Fern is survived by her son, Gary of St. Paul, MN; granddaughter, Colleen of Florida; and her adopted “son”, John R. Knowlton of Stevens Point.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents; and brother, Harvey Hellmuth.
