Dan O’Connell received the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife Management’s 2014 Special Recognition Award at its annual statewide meeting.
O’Connell was recognized for his hard work and dedication to the land and people of central Wisconsin. Dan has worked within the Land Conservation Division in Jackson and Wood counties and is currently a senior conservation technician for Portage County.
O’Connell has dedicated his time and passion to Central Wisconsin’s grasslands, and provides technical assistance regarding managed grazing.
For over 15 years, he has assisted with prairie chicken surveys, rising before dawn and providing detailed notes of his observations.
He serves as a member of the DNR Prairie Chicken Advisory Committee, which is currently working to update the Ten Year Prairie Chicken Management Plan.
