Morgan Bolchen, a 2nd grader from Stevens Point will participate as a Wisconsin finalist for the National American Miss Pageant on August 22 in the Wisconsin Dells.
The event will be held at the Chula Vista Resort and feature contestants in several age divisions from across the state.
Morgan, who is 7 years old, will compete in the Jr. Preteen division. The winner of the pageant will receive $1,000 in cash, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the National Finals to be held in California. National finalists will also be taken on a tour of Hollywood and receive VIP tickets to Disneyland.
The National American Miss contest is not a traditional “beauty pageant.” Contestants are judged on poise, confidence, presentation and speaking skills in four areas: personal introduction, an interview, formal wear and community involvement.
There is no swim suit category and contestants under 12 do not wear makeup. Emphasis is placed on developing self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship, as well as setting and achieving personal goals. Nationally, American Miss awards $1.5 million in cash awards and scholarships every year.
Morgan is also a student at Dance Dynamics in Plover, participates in the drama club at McKinley Elementary and enjoys hunting, fishing, cooking, baking, sports and reading.
She is being sponsored by her friends and family, Mada Apparel, and Buck & Bulls Archery.
