Officials from the parks department on Friday erected the first city-owned radio broadcast antenna.
The 10-foot antenna mast was installed at the top of a 100-foot-tall light post at Goerke Field, which will allow transmission for programming of the city’s first 100-watt radio station.
John Quirk from the city parks department said programming will consist of background music or replaying recent city meetings, and will also serve as an emergency broadcast system. Expanded programming could be possible in the future, he said.
The radio station, 105.9, will begin programming at some point on Friday, Quirk said.
