Daniel J. Giblin, age 67, of Plover, Wisconsin passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 1, 2015 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wis.
He was born January 4, 1948, in Springfield Massachusetts, the oldest son of the late Joseph P. and Lucille M. (McLaughlin) Giblin.
Dan graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield, Mass., May 1965, and studied Political Science at the College of the Holy Cross, Worchester, Mass., where he was an ROTC Cadet and graduated with a B.A degree May 1969. He was commissioned upon graduation as a Lieutenant in the US Navy, and served as First Lieutenant and Legal Officer on the USS Fort Snelling, and was honorably discharged in May 1972. He went on to graduate from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law with a Juris Doctorate 1982, and was member of the American Bar Association.
Dan moved to Stevens Point from Atlanta, Georgia with his family in 1983 to continue his career at Sentry Insurance where he was employed from 1972 until his retirement in 2009. During his time with Sentry he attained a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and was an instructor for others seeking the designation.
Dan loved to golf and play bridge. His friends will miss him at the table and on the links. Dan was also a voracious reader.
Dan cherished his family. He is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen Giblin (Eric Stroik) of Stevens Point, Mary Giblin (Andy Evenson) of Madison, WI, and Anne Giblin Gedacht (Joshua) of Brunei, Darussalam; and three grandchildren, Maya, Rowan, and Leonora. He also is survived by his sister, Susan Giblin of Providence, RI; his brother, Jay (Betty) Giblin of Cheshire, CT; and his sister-law, Jeanne Giblin of Eastham, MA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and Maureen Giblin, his lifelong friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Giblin; and niece, Fiona.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Boston Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14th, at St Joseph Catholic Church with visitation preceding the funeral from 10 a.m. until time of service. Dan will be laid to rest at Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
