Fire officials in Plover say there were no injuries in a fire at McCain Foods on Sunday night.
The fire started shortly after 9:30 PM in a fryer unit of the food processing plant on Highway 54. Plover Fire Chief Mark Deaver said all employees were safely evacuated, and the fire was contained to the fryer.
“There were no injuries reported,” Deaver said, adding McCain workers “did a good job” extinguishing most of the fire by the time fire trucks arrived from Plover and the Village of Whiting. Crews were on the scene for about an hour, he added.
No damage was sustained elsewhere inside the building, Deaver said.
A representative of McCain Foods was not immediately available for comment.
The plant recently started its seasonal full production of processing potatoes. At the height of its production, the plant processes about 1 million pounds of potatoes daily.
