In a decided victory, the top-ranked Amherst High School Falcons varsity football team defeated the Pacelli Cardinals 0-56 Friday night at Goerke park.
The Cardinals, coming off a 47-13 victory against the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers last week, had no response to the Falcons offense who scored six unanswered touchdowns and ran for 454 yards in the first half alone.
The Falcons came out early in the first quarter, scoring their first touchdown at 11:19 with a 35 yard pass from senior quarterback Garret Groshek to junior wide receiver Josh Cisewski. A 1-yard TD run by junior running back Brandon Piotrowski and a 25 yard TD pass from Groshek to senior wide receiver Mitchell Glodowski brought the score to 0-21 at the end of the first quarter.
A six yard pass from Groshek to senior wide receiver Hunter Warner brought the score to 0-28 at 8:26 in the second quarter. Two more touchdowns by Piotrowski brought the score to 0-42 at the end of the first half.
After the game, Head Coach Drew Nelson said the halftime score was insurmountable but he’d hoped to at least get some points on the board before the end.
A running clock for the entirety of the second half ended the game quickly but not before Amherst ran in two more TDs for a final score of 0-56.
Amherst’s record improves to 5-0 while Pacelli drops to 2-3.
Check back later for video footage of the came and comments from Head Coach Drew Nelson.
Pacelli travels to Manawa next Friday, Sept. 25 for their sixth game of the season. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
