In a victory clear from almost the beginning, SPASH Panthers defeated a scoreless Neenah Rockets team 42-0.
After an uncharacteristic long pass to open the game that ended in an interception by the Rockets, the Panthers’ defense kicked in and held their opponent to 42 net rushing yards and 25 passing. The Panthers ended the game with 157 rushing yards and 164 passing.
SPASH scored twice in the first quarter. The first, at 5:47, came after a 12 yard touchdown run by senior Victor Kizewski. Another TD at 1:37 in the first, a 16 yard run by senior running back Gus Turner-Zick, brought the score to 14-0.
Turner-Zick ran for two more TDs in the second quarter and an eight yard pass from junior quarterback Beau Rosenthal to Joey Hauser at 0:42 ended the first half with a score of 35-0.
A 51 yard TD pass from Rosenthal to Kizewski at 6:56 in the third quarter brought the game to its final score of 42-0.
A running clock for the entirety of the second half finished the game quickly with no scores by the Rockets.
Turner-Zick led the team with 92 rushing yards and Rosenthal ended up with six pass completions for 135 yards. Junior kicker Joey Dorgan was successful in all six extra point attempts of the evening.
