City Times Staff
City officials have been formally recognized by the Stevens Point Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to the city’s police dept. and to Stevens Point during the Oct. 19 Common Council meeting. Mayor Mike Wiza accepted the certificate on behalf of the city, while Interim Chief Marty Skibba took the certificate for the police department.
The national organization of DAR recently celebrated its centennial, and as a service project the group wrote more than 100 letters of appreciation to, “those who provide education, nurturing, caring and helpful, supportive service to the residents of this great community”.
Presentations of the certificates to the city and police dept. were apart of that project, according to Beverly West from the Stevens Point DAR chapter.
In Wisconsin alone, there are more than 30 chapters of the DAR with over 1,500 active members.
Any woman age 18 or older who can prove they are related to a service member from the Revolutionary War is invited to join the organization. For more information on DAR, go to www.dar.org.
