More details have emerged regarding a car crash in the Stevens Point Copps parking lot that left some damage to vehicles and the building.
At about 4:30 PM on October 28, Stevens Point police were called to the Copps Market at 1500 Pinecrest Ave. in response to a car accident.
Assistant Police Chief Tom Zenner said the driver was an 84-year-old woman who backed out of her parking stall in a gray sedan and into the brick facade of the grocery store, causing some exterior damage.
The woman then pulled forward and ran into one unoccupied vehicle which was pushed into a cart corral. She then drove into a decorative boulder and ran over small tree before hopping the curb and coming to a stop in a drainage ditch at the rear of Schierl Tire and Len Dudas motors.
How the woman lost control of her vehicle is currently unknown.
“All of it would be speculative,” said Zenner. “Other than going in with stuff that was not supported at the scene would be an elaboration.”
Zenner said no alcohol or drugs are considered a factor in the accident though a driver condition report is being submitted to determine the woman’s future driving status.
Emergency medical services were not present and no injuries have been reported according to the Stevens Point Fire Department.
