The Stevens Point Area Running Club (SPARC) is hosting its 3rd annual Point XC Challenge on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The cross-county meet will feature three races – one-mile, two-mile and five-mile routes – at Standing Rocks Park, located at 7695 Standing Rocks Rd. in Stevens Point.
All races will start and finish at the park ski lodge and are open to all ages. Start times are as follows: one-mile race, 10 a.m.; two-mile race, 10:30 a.m.; and five-mile race, 11:15 a.m.
“The cross-country challenge was started to provide an opportunity for young runners to get out and compete in a life-long sport,” said Nate Olson, meet organizer. “It is important for people to get outside to enjoy the outdoors, while having fun and pushing themselves to achieve their goals.”
Runners who preregister for the meet are guaranteed a long-sleeved t-shirt. Preregistration costs are as follows: one-mile race, $15; two-mile race, $20; and five-mile race, $30. An additional charge of $5 will be applied to runners who register the day of the meet. Race-day registration opens at 8:30 a.m.
“The money will be used to help SPARC put on track meets and create additional opportunities for the youth in our community to compete in a positive environment,” Olson said. A portion of money raised will also be donated to the Friends of Standing Rocks Park.
All races will be chip-timed at the meet and awards distributed to top female and male finishers within their respective age groups.
“I’m excited to see people cross the finish line with a sense of accomplishment after giving it everything they had,” Olson said.
