With the spring election five months away, two candidates have announced campaigns for one of four available seats on the Stevens Point School Board.
Portage Co. Chief Deputy Dan Kontos and former Board Secretary Amy Dailey have filed their candidacy paperwork at Bliss Educational Services Center. According to Karlyn Krautkramer, business services administrative assistant, several others have shown interest by requesting candidacy paperwork, but no one else has filed as of Tuesday morning.
Dailey served as board secretary for two years, having resigned from the position in order to run for office. Dailey’s Facebook page can be found here.
Kontos currently serves on the board’s policy and legislative committee, having been appointed to that role in May. He previously applied for an appointment to the board when former Board Member Alex Kochanowski resigned in April but lost the appointment to Angel Faxon.
Kontos’ Facebook page can be found here.
Three full-term spots, and one year-long seat, are up for reelection in April. If needed, a primary will be held in February.
Terms expire for board members Jeff Ebel, Angel Faxon, Kim Shirek and Lisa Totten next year. Krautkramer said the district sends a reminder to incumbents to file candidacy paperwork, or to declare non-candidacy, by the Jan. 5 deadline but as of Tuesday none had returned the form.
