The Pacelli Cardinals varsity boys basketball team took its second win of the season after defeating the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers 63-52 at their court on December 11.
The Cardinals entered the game after losing their past two games, 55-68 against the Bonduel Bears and 39-49 against the Assumption Royals, both at home. Pacelli now stands at 1-1 in Central Wisconsin – Eight Conference play and 2-2 overall.
“We played a decent game tonight. We were facing some foul trouble and some of the bench players really stepped up for us,” said Pacelli Head Coach Matt Resch. “Our defense carried us tonight and led to many offensive opportunities.”
Senior guard Jake Elliot led the Cardinals with 26 points and shot 50 percent for the night. Senior forward Chris Shibilski put 11 points through the hoop and made an impact defensively with seven steals. Sophomore forward Garrett Parks added 10 points to the Cardinal total.
Lead scorers for the Chargers were sophomore guard Trevor Groshek with 13 points and junior guard Teagon Lehman with 8 points.
The Cardinals return to home court next week and take on the Antigo Red Robins on December 15 at 7:30 PM. They then hit the road on December 18 to play the Shiocton Chiefs at 7:30 PM.
