Annual drive puts a book into the hands of an emerging reader
City Times Staff
For the last 18 years, Books From the Heart has been placing books into the hands of emerging readers in public and parochial schools in the Stevens Point Area for Valentine’s Day.
The new book drive is held in collaboration with the Stevens Point Area Education Association.
What began as an effort to provide books to all first-grade students has expanded to serve all K-2 students. Between Jan. 10 and Feb. 10, area residents have the chance to support the community-based book drive by visiting local bookstores.
The Book Look, 2724 Post Rd., and Book World, 1136 Main St., are both offering 20 percent discounts for books purchased for the drive.
Monetary donations are also welcome in lieu of a book purchase. Donations can be sent to: “Books from the Heart” c/o Sally Crane, J.F. Kennedy Elementary School, 616 W. Second Street, Junction City, Wis., 54443. Books are then purchased in the name of the donor or donor organization.
For more information contact Crane at Kennedy Elementary School, (715) 345-5614 or via email at scrane@pointschools.net.
