To the Editor-
I read with interest the article about the proposed new bike paths in Stevens Point. I talked with several bike riders about this and they all agreed that putting bike paths on heavy traffic streets is wrong.
The bike paths are OK, but they need to be on less-traveled streets. Also, I did the math and the cost figures out to $34, 153 per mile.
A federal grant is our tax money. If we want to modernize our transportation system, we need to look at all age groups in our area. Seniors are not going to be riding bikes, they are going to need better means of transportation than a $10 cab ride to go two miles.
Maybe we could put some of that money into improving our bus system. How about we tell all those students at SPASH to start riding bikes instead of driving their cars to school?
We have a society that is dependent on cars from a young age and that is not going to change. What exactly is the Master Plan?
