Officials from Plover remain tight-lipped about which restaurant is eyeing the former location of Denny’s in Crossroads Commons- but say they’ll be able to disclose a name soon.
The building, located at 1250 Commerce Place, has been empty since Denny’s closed suddenly last year. The location previously was also home to Hudson’s Classic Grill.
Village Administrator Dan Mahoney told the village board in Dec. future plans for the lot involved something exciting, but couldn’t say what at that time.
“But it is a restaurant the community will be very pleased to see,” Mahoney said in December.
Last week Mahoney said he’s unsure if the new business has taken tenancy of the building yet.
“They haven’t submitted the plans to us yet, but our understanding is [the new tenants] are going to gut the entire interior and re-do it,” he said.
Mahoney said the new restaurant could open for business without village permission, but renovations require a building permit, and that hasn’t happened yet.
“Once the building permit is filed, then we can release the name,” Mahoney said, adding the company has discussed possibly making changes to the parking lot, which would require a site plan review- something else the village would need to approve during a public hearing.
“It should be any day now,” he said.
