The SPASH girls and boys basketball teams played host to Wisconsin Rapids in a girls-boys basketball doubleheader at the SPASH field house Friday, Feb. 5.
The girls walked away from game one with a 58-35 win over the Raiders. The win improved the Panthers Wisconsin Valley Conference record to 5-5. Rapids drops to 2-8 in the WVC.
Maggie Negaard brought the Panthers 16 points. Rachel Sullivan added eight points with Brooke Tuszka (7), Taylor Beadles (6), Madisyn Rogan (6), Kaylin Kostuchowski (4), Halle Gregorcih(4), Hannah Worzella (3), Lauren Gerads (2) and Kayla Pavelski (2) rounding out the scoring for SPASH.
SPASH hit 17 two-pointers, five three-pointers, and dropped in nine of 13 from the free-throw line for 69 percent.
The Panthers junior varsity came away with a 59-31 win. Abby Gemza lit up the board with 18 points, Kaylee Hintz added 15 points and Maddie Fink dropped in eight points to lead the SPASH attack.
The girls travel to Merrill Friday, Feb. 12 for a conference tilt with the Bluejays. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
The SPASH boys basketball team jumped out to a 10-2 lead over Rapids and never looked back increasing the margin to 28-8 at the 8:30 mark of the first half on the way to a 44-17 halftime lead.
Continuing their scoring onslaught the Panthers outscored Rapids 16-5 to open the second half and led 71-30 at the 7:05 mark on their way to a final 80-41 win. The Panthers remain undefeated, ranked first in the state and 11th in the nation.
Sam Hauser led the attack with 23 points. Trev Anderson added 22 points with Joey Hauser (14), Beau Rosenthal (7), Mack Journell (4), Jake Hofmeister (3), Joe Fasula (3), Keont’te Williams (2) and Drew Blair (2) rounding out the SPASH scoring on the night.
SPASH drained 23 two-pointers, six three-pointers, and hit 16 of 18 free throws for 89 percent.
The junior varsity boys rolled past Rapids 49-35. Drew Cullen hit four three-pointers in the first half on his way to 14 points total to lead the Panther scoring. Luke Bahling added 10 points. Logan Lewis and Spencer Tyson each chipped in eight points.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 9 when Lacrosse Central comes to the SPASH field house for a 7:45 PM game. They will host Wisconsin Valley Conference foe Merrill Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 PM.
