One man has been hospitalized following a single-snowmobile accident on the Dewey Marsh Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the rural scene at 2:59 PM, according to Stevens Point Fire Capt. J.B. Moody.
“It was a single driver on a snowmobile with non-life threatening injuries,” Moody said, adding the driver was transported to Aspirus Wausau via ambulance.
Town of Hull Fire Chief Mark Kluck said one of the EMS providers on the scene said they believed the driver’s legs had been broken in the accident.
Dewey Fire Capt. Brian Lepper- who is also fire chief in Park Ridge- said the driver was snowmobiling on a marked trail along the Dewey Marsh about a mile off Haymeadow Dr., one mile north of Dewey Drive. Town of Hull Fire and EMS was called in for use of its utility-task vehicle (UTV), which was necessary to reach the victim, he said.
Lepper said along with crews from Dewey and Hull, the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office and Portage Co. Ambulance Service all responded. Crews were on the scene for about 90 minutes, Lepper said.
It was not immediately known if alcohol was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
