In an effort to provide more opportunity for local hunters, the Dewey Shooting Range will hold a special early-season opening for the public.
The range will be open on Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 17 from 10 AM to 2 PM each day.
“We’ve been asked by spring turkey hunters more and more over recent years to have the range open prior to turkey season so they could site in their guns,” said Gary Speckmann, director for the Portage County Parks Department.
The 10-station field archery course will be open, along with 25-yard, 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard ranges.
The Dewey Range opens for its regular season on May 15, after which it will be open to the public on Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM through July.
The shooting range is located approximately six miles north of Stevens Point at 3001 Willow Springs Dr. in Stevens Point.
