The World’s Largest Trivia Contest has returned for its 47th year.
The 54-hour contest is broadcast on the college radio station WWSP 90FM, as well as online and via the university’s local access television station, at this time every year.
Teams compete beginning at 6 PM on Friday through midnight Sunday.
“I’d have to throw every question out if I took it off the Internet, because the Internet is the largest source of misinformation,” said Trivia coordinator Jim “The Oz” Oliva.
Oliva said many who play the game do so because they, “just hung around and started playing Trivia, now they don’t even know what it’s about”, adding organizers utilized a public outreach campaign this year to get people excited about the contest.
Topics for trivia questions span multiple areas but also include questions based on photos inside the New Trivia Times booklet printed each year. Participants also leave their team headquarters — many adorned with front yard signs including team names and mascots — to find clues to running questions posed throughout the weekend.
Trivia is the major fundraiser for the 90FM college radio station.
The annual Trivia Parade kicks the weekend off beginning at 4 PM.
The parade will begin in Parking Lot Q and travel its usual route: Illinois Ave, north to Maria Dr., west on Maria Dr. to Isadore St., south on Isadore St. to Portage St., east on Portage St. to Phillips St., south on Phillips St. to College Ave., east on College Street to Reserve St., north on Reserve St. to High St., east on High St. to Fremont St., south on Fremont St. to Simms Ave., and east on Simms Ave. into the P.J.
