To the Editor-
I am a student in Mr. Greco’s 9th grade Microsoft Applications/World of Business at Ben Franklin Jr. High and we made history. On April 30th, 2016, we organized a fundraising event for the Portage County K-9 unit at Lower Whiting Park.
The K-9 unit was a vital choice for us. We wanted to assist in ensuring our community’s safety. After conducting a survey in school and throughout the community, our choice became obvious. This type of event has never been done by a 9th grade class in the Stevens Point area.
After selling hot dogs, hamburgers, cupcakes and sold popcorn; George from CobPoppers donating 70 percent of his profits, we raised nearly $6,000, as of May 16, 2016! This was a wild adventure and I was thrilled to be a part of it.
Though at times it was challenging, we managed to pull together and raise a lot of money for our cause. Our class project was our “book”. However, this experience would not have been a success without the following contributors, supporters and community members:
Stevens Point City Times, Brandi Makuski, Save-a-Lot/Mr. Johanson, Stevens Point Area Education Association, SPARTA, Michelle Lavin-Davis, Plover Express, VanErt Electric, Pio’s Place/Perry Piotrowski, Pepsi, Lori Epstien, Gardeners Bakery, Trudy Peters & friends, Checks Mufflers, Big iron Equipment, Cob Poppers/George Kramer, Point Trophy, Skyward, Duraclean, The Clubhouse, Pert Properties, Alpha Baking Co., GrayBar, Carl & Lisa Mocadlo, Mr. Vaughn, Mrs. Katie Wanta, The Vitts, Mr. Pete Clark, Mrs. Marilyn Devene, Mrs. Jessica Fischer, Mrs. Jera Adams, Gold Key Motors, Barb & Jeffery Peterson, Tom Fields, Kathy Strojny, Margot Friedli, Paul, Marci & Mom Mirman, Kristen Boyer, Mrs. Peggy Greco, David and Patricia Anderson, Carol and Thomas Albert, Christiana M.
