Members of the Park Ridge Fire Department gathered on July 4 to celebrate the holiday and blow off a little steam with a game of flag football.
The first-annual event welcomed family members and passersby in the community. Firefighters and their families brought soda and dishes to pass, along with items for a barbecue, but no alcohol was permitted as the crew was still on duty.
PRFD Chief Brian Lepper said his crew will sometimes hold department meetings on the holiday, “so long as everyone’s available”, adding the family-friendly game was a last-minute substitution for a formal meeting.
“Tomorrow comes the hard part,” said firefighter Chris Villareal, laughing. “Recovery.”
