John Moss is now a sergeant with the Stevens Point Police Department.
Moss, an 18-year veteran of the department, is also a veteran of the United States Army, both active duty and reserve.
He’s also held several instructor and supervisory positions within the department over the past decade, according to Assistant Chief Tom Zenner. Moss has served as an instructor in firearms, defense and arrest tactics and taser, and has been field training officer. He previously served the department as a reserve shift supervisor and was promoted last Sept. to the rank of corporal.
“He’s got quite the pedigree,” Zenner said.
Moss, 45, was also recently promoted to SWAT commander for the department; he replaces Tony Babl, who was promoted to assistant police chief late last year.
Moss’ promotion was unanimously approved by the police and fire commission on July 12. He lives with his family in the Town of Plover.
