Friends and family will gather to share memories in Allan’s memory from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday Sept. 10, 2016 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. Immediately following a procession to Forest Cemetery, a committal and military service will be held at graveside. A reception for all family and friends will be held after the cemetery services starting at approximately 3:30 at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport.
Allan was born June 10, 1933 in Stevens Point, the son of Roy and Georgine (Rustad) Summers. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School and then entered the United States Navy on June 19, 1951 in Chicago, IL. Allan earned the National Defense and Good Conduct medals. He served his country until his honorable discharge on June 2, 1955 in San Francisco, CA.
He returned to Stevens Point attended Central State College (UWSP) and held various jobs until becoming and engineer on the Soo Line and Wisconsin Central Railroads until his retirement in 1989. Allan married Nancy Shoemaker in September of 1961, the couple later divorced. Allan was a member of Siasefi Central State while in college, belonged to many Wings of the Confederate Air Force groups throughout the country. He was a lifetime member of the EAA Golden Eagle.
A member of the Stevens Point Pilots Association, Elks Club, United Transportation Union, Trinity Lutheran Church, Volunteer EAA Adventures, War Bird Flight Lines and Press Corps. Allan volunteered for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort in Biloxi, MS and was a collector of most anything collectable. He was a skilled model airplane builder and a published aviation photographer. He also traveled to all 50 of the United States.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Randy) Gruba, WI. 4 brothers: Don Summers, WA; Dale Summers, FL; Bruce (Shirley) Summers, IL; Doug Summers, WI. Two sisters: Linda (Bill) Hastings, WA and Suzanne Holt, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Allan led a very active life; he truly enjoyed spending time with his good friends at Al’s Diner, and all of his fellow aviation enthusiasts around the country. His family wishes to thank all of you who helped make his life as full as it was.
