The battle of the two heavyweights in Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Soccer took place at the Portage County Youth Soccer complex Tuesday night, when SPASH played host to D.C. Everest.
The Evergreens arrived at the field sporting a 10-0-1 record and a No. 3 ranking in Sunday’s Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association division one poll. Everest was fresh off a weekend win over Oshkosh North, ranked No. 3 in Division 2 poll.
The lone blemish on the Evergreens schedule was a 2-2 tie with Wisconsin Rapids to open league play. Everest travels to Wisconsin Rapids Thursday for the rematch.
Everest put the ball in the net at the 6:41 mark and again at 22:02 in the first half to go up 2-0 before Panther defense man Mckenon Diekroger scored with a header off a penalty kick from senior midfielder Joey Dorgan.
The half ended with Everest up 2-1.
Sophomore Midfielder Ethan Kane knotted the score at the 8:43 mark of the second half and despite several scoring opportunities, neither team was able to find the back of the net again.
SPASH continues atop the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 5-0-1 record and is 10-0-1 overall following two big weekend wins over Fond Du Lac (10-0) and De Pere (6-1).
SPASH returns to action Thursday when they host Wausau East at the PCYS. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Panthers then travel to Wausau West Tuesday, Sept. 27 for a 4:30 PM contest.
