The Stevens Point Curling Club has won a state championship.
The girl’s team, coached by Patti Henning, won their pool by defeating teams from Menomonie, Wausau East and Lodi.
Team members Suzanna Viau, Rachel Kawleski, Anissa Zaske, Elizabeth Rubenzer and Krista Domaszek are now 2017 Wisconsin State High School Girls Curling Champions–the first high school championship for the Stevens Point Curling Club in the 58-year history of the event.
The Stevens Point Curling Club had two teams competing in the State High School Curling Championship, held at the Wausau Curling Club on Feb. 17 and 18. A total of 32 players, boys and girls, competed from Stevens Point.
The Stevens Point boy’s team, consisted of Shane Summers, Thomas Whelihan, Isko Ollech, Ben Kroening and Morgan O’Keefe, was coached by Lori Kawleski and were seeded 12th.
