To the Editor-
I support Mary McComb for District 9 Alder. Mary grew up in Stevens Point and has lived in her current residence for over a decade. She owns Sugar Doll Chocolates and Cards and is a member of the Stevens Point Downtown Business Association.
Alder McComb has a Ph.D. in Communication and has taught communication courses at UW-SP. Her 2016 persuasion class designed marketing plans for the City’s bus system, which were presented to the Mayor and City staff. She was key in the creation of the Dog Park and serves as a Library Trustee. She is a collaborator by spirit and draws upon her education, research and life experience to find solutions to problems.
I have observed Mary at City Council meetings and she listens to diverse opinions with an open mind and gives insightful feedback. She asks questions to clarify issues and is able to find common ground to build consensus. Her demeanor at Council meetings is thoughtful and respectful.
I have also had the had the pleasure of playing my violin from time to time with Mary at The Springs United Methodist Church in Plover, where she is the resident pianist. She is a joy to work with and has served The Springs congregation since 2007. Mary also has been the pianist for many years for the Very Special Arts Choir.
As the incumbent, Mary brings valuable experience to the job. As a long-term resident and local business owner, she brings insights about Stevens Point that her opponent does not have.
Even though I don’t live in District 9, Mary McComb’s qualifications and public service speak for themselves and benefit ALL residents of Stevens Point. I urge all District 9 voters to vote for Mary McComb!
