The SPASH boys basketball team pulled out a 62–55 win over Eau Claire North in the WIAA sectional semi-final at Eau Claire Memorial Thursday night.
The win sends the Panthers, seeded No. 2 in the bracket to Marshfield High School Saturday afternoon for a matchup with No. 1 seeded Oshkosh North. North advanced after beating Marshfield 67–54.
Game time is set for 4 PM. The winner moves on the Kohl Center in Madison.
Joey Hauser, Drew Blair and Beau Rosenthal led the Panther attack, each scoring in double figures. Hauser it up the board with a game high 28 points and cleared the boards with 20 rebounds. Rosenthal added 14 points and dished out four assists and Blair put up 12 points on the night.
Oshkosh North comes into the game with a 25–0 overall record, winners of the Fox Valley Association. Leading the team in scoring is Tyrese Haliburton averaging 16 ppg. Phillip Flory brings a 13.8-point average to the floor and Quincy Anderson, 13.1 ppg.
Flory averages 4.8 rebounds and Shane Wissink leads the team dishing out 3.3 assists per game.
The Panthers, 21 -4, will counter with Joey Hauser (23.4 ppg), Drew Blair (19.3 ppg), and Beau Rosenthal (12.2 ppg). Hauser leads the team in rebounds clearing 10.1 boards per game and hands out 5.4 assists per game.
The Panthers also boast a talented cast of players off the bench in Drew Cullen, Sam Simmons, Brennan Mueller, Logan Lewis and Andrew Erdman, all having provided strong playing minutes for SPASH during the season on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
The sectional champion will face off in the state semi-final against the winner of the Madison East – Madison Memorial game slated for Saturday afternoon at Sun Prairie High School. Memorial enters that game as the No. 2 seed with East coming in as the No. 8 seed in the bracket.
Game time at the Kohl Center in Madison is slated for 6:35 PM on Friday, March 17.
