For the City Times
The City of Stevens Point’s low-power FM radio station, WSNP-LP 105.9 FM, is now streaming.
The radio station can be heard on the city’s website using any browser, as well as the free mobile apps are available for Android and iPhone/iPad users. The apps make it easier to listen on mobile devices.
“Now that we’re streaming the radio station, people have another way to keep up with all of the great things going on in Stevens Point — from anywhere in the country,” said Mayor Mike Wiza. “Not only can they hear great music, but also Talking Point with Mayor Mike, Portage County Matters with County Executive Patty Dreier, most city meetings, and other great programming from WSNP-LP, 105.9 FM.”
The WSNP-LP 105.9 FM stream is available on the city’s website at StevensPoint.com/RadioLive. The player on the website shows song information, artist information, album cover artwork and more.
The free WSNP-LP mobile apps make it more convenient to stream the station on phones and tablets. Like the website, they provide information about the music and programs that are playing, links to social media, and more. They also include alarm clock and sleep timer functions.
Android phone users can find the app in the Google Play Store and iPhone/iPad users can get it from The iTunes App Store. Simply search for “WSNP” in the stores.
“We certainly hope people will continue to use radios to listen whenever possible, especially when they’re driving, but streaming the station helps us reach those far eastern and southern parts of the county where our radio signal isn’t very clear,” said John Quirk, the city’s community media manager. “By listening online, those people will not only be able to hear our regular programming, but also any emergency alerts or other public safety information we broadcast.”
WSNP-LP is also available on the TuneIn website and mobile app, but those both display advertisements that the City of Stevens Point has no control over.
The city partnered with Securenet Systems to develop and maintain their website player and mobile apps. Securenet’s Cirrus Streaming system is the fastest-growing cloud-based radio streaming network, serving listeners in 195 countries. They serve over 57 million monthly listeners with more than 18 million hours of programming, and their users have installed over 240 thousand mobile apps.
WSNP-LP was able to become a Securenet Systems customer at a reduced monthly rate because of a partnership between Securenet and StationPlaylist.com, the company that created the Studio software WSNP-LP uses to play its music and other programs.
