Tuesday night’s opening game in coed softball at Moore Barn Memorial between Final Score and Joe’s Bar saw 28 runs cross the plate.
Unfortunately for the Score, 23 of them belonged to Joe’s.
The game was pretty much over by the third inning. Final Score actually led, 2-0, after the first inning as Codi Klismith and Kendra Pressuer tallied for the BlackShirts. Final Score extended its lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the second. Corey Blake’s roundtripper was the key blow.
Then came the fireworks for Joe’s in the bottom half of the second. Travis Kempf led off with a solo homer to left. Taylor Mains singled, Casey Kedrowski walked, and boom, Rob King nailed a rocket down the right-field line and came around for an inside-the-park three-run homer that tied the game at 4-4.
Then Ryan Gleesing doubled, Courtney Nelson singled, and Casey Bielen followed with Joe’s second three-run blast in the inning. 7-4 Joe’s after two. Final Score picked up one more run in the third on hits by Kendra Pressuer and Dalton Wriedt, but that ended the Score’s offense for the evening.
On the other hand, Joe’s was just getting started.
Kempf tripled, Mains, Casey Kedrowski, and Beke Blue each singled, and Rob King belted his second three-run homer of the night. After Gleesing and Bielen singled, Kempf went deep again as Joe’s tacked on nine more big ones. 16-5 Joe’s after three. And Joe’s Bar still wasn’t done. In the bottom of the fourth, they poured across seven more runs.
The onslaught included doubles by Kempf and Brianna Dobbratz, triples by Courtney Nelson and Dani Brezinski, and a couple of more home runs by Bielen and Rob King.
The seven homers by Joe’s was a new Doug’s Sports Pub Co-Ed League record. In addition to their seven longballs, the winners also hit two doubles and five triples. Joe’s had 24 hits to Final Score’s eight.
Casey Kedrowski of Joe’s (who had three walks and a single) said, “Our guys brought out the big bats, but our gals were awesome. They must’ve had about seven hits.” (Actually, the ladies had eight hits and scored nine runs.)
Both teams are now tied with 1-1 records.
RD’s Diner awarded broasted chicken dinners to Final Score fan Echo Terry for retrieving six home run softballs; Joe’s Brianna Dobbratz for a spectacular catch at first base; Travis Kempf of Joe’s for his two homers, triple, and double; Rob King of Joe’s for smacking three homers in three trips to the plate; and Casey Kedrowski of Joe’s for going one for one and walking three times.
