STEVENS POINT — Giving back this holiday season isn’t exclusive to humans, and the annual ‘Yoga 4 Paws’ event proved as much.
Held on Saturday, Dec. 9, the fundraising event hosted 58 participants and yogis alike, and raised a total of $1,700 to go towards the Humane Society of Portage County. ‘Yoga 4 Paws’, held at the Stevens Point Recreation Department, ran a special yoga class for supporters, who donated a minimum of $25. Also on hand were basket raffles, t-shirts, and special guest “Buster”, who is currently up for adoption.
While this year saw a new location, it didn’t see any lack of support from local residents.
“Moving locations was a great decision, as it allowed our participation to almost double in size this year,” said Ana Merchak, owner of Ana Marie Yoga. “We had several ‘Yoga 4 Paws’ veterans attend in addition to many new faces.”
Aside from Ana Marie Yoga, Point Embroidery & Screen sponsored the event. Other businesses who donated money or raffle baskets include: Central Orthodontics Specialists, Duraclean Specialists, Hawaiian Tanning Studios, Beauty & Beyond by Stefanie, Matsu Ya, Wicked Willow, Lil’ Pets, Lake of the Torches Casino Resort, Moxie Salon and Stefanie Jackson, Licensed Massage Therapist.
“The energy experienced by all who gathered for this important cause was truly heartwarming,” said Merchak. “It’s all about helping the animals.”
The Humane Society of Portage County is in the middle of their ‘Home for the Holidays’ campaign, and adoption fees for cats and kittens are waived through Dec. 31. For more information, please contact 715-344-6012.
